The Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) Macassar Community Centre celebrated another milestone achievement as 130 community members graduated with basic computer skills, exactly double the (65) graduates from December last year.
The ceremony took on special significance with the attendance of representatives from the Department of Labour and Employment, who presented information about the department’s job-seeker programmes to the new graduates.
In his address to the Macassar community graduates Thembisile Cetywayo emphasised the department’s commitment to fostering employment opportunities through collaboration with various stakeholders.
He invited the graduates to attend Monday’s Job Seekers’ Expo (30 June) at the Macassar Civic Centre, where they could register their profiles with various departmental databases, including the Department of Labour and Employment.
At the ceremony Agatha Tshabala, general manager of Human Resources at RDM, commended participants for their dedication to self-empowerment.
She emphasised that the community centre’s training programmes welcome individuals of all ages, and not just young people.
“I hope you secure the employment opportunities you rightfully deserve,”
Tshabala told the graduates.
Graduate Mary Oliphant, who works at a local hospital, identified the training as an opportunity to enhance her Excel and Power Point skills to perform more effectively in her current role.
“It’s never too late to improve your skill set,”
Oliphant said.
RDM remains committed to empowering local communities.
The company also participated in an exhibition at the Macassar Civic Centre on Monday to support government employment initiatives and provide opportunities for job seekers.
