A chorus of excited squeals echoed through Glen Graze Rescue Sanctuary on Saturday 18 July, as the Nosh for Josh Foundation’s neurodiverse students arrived to celebrate Mandela Day.

The initiative began early last week, when students baked an impressive 1 700 dog biscuits under the guidance of Sandy and Josh Pekeur, assisted by Chef Anthony.

These treats became part of a community exchange: visitors who donated dog food received a packet of the homemade biscuits in return.

The community response was overwhelming. Donations of dog food, blankets, beds, toys and essential supplies poured in, easing the burden of caring for the sanctuary’s rescued animals.

The event showcased powerful community spirit while highlighting the abilities and compassion of the neurodiverse students, who led the project to success.

Special appreciation was extended to Animal Welfare Society Helderberg, Hope to Rescue Directory, Yasiam Learning, Circle Coffee, Curbside Chef, Groomers Corner, the Uyanda Serve in Faith Movement and Kolskoot Radio for their valued support.

The 67 Minutes for Paws and Claws initiative proved that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact, one donation and one wagging tail at a time.
