Lwandle police detectives have made known the names of 10 most-wanted criminal suspects in the precinct, and call on the community to help track them down.

The 10 are being sought for various crimes, ranging from murder and rape to perjury, motor vehicle theft and fraud, committed from 2013 to 2020 in areas such as Nomzamo and Asanda Village. The detectives state they want to solve these cases at the earliest opportunity.

The 10 most wanted criminals in the policing precinct are:

  • Khanyisani Shushu, who is wanted in connection with a murder that occurred in Overwacht Road, Lwandle on 30 November 2018. It is alleged the suspect fatally stabbed a 27-year-old Nomzamo man. Following the police investigation Shushu was arrested, appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court and was released on bail. He failed to appear in court at the next date and a warrant of arrest has since been issued.
  • Siyathemba Gonongo, wanted in connection with a murder of a man in Paliso Street, Asanda Village on 27 April 2018. It is alleged Gonongo stabbed the deceased multiple times and he died on arrival at a nearby hospital. Gonongo was arrested for the murder and appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court, but disappeared after being released on bail. A warrant of arrest for him has been issued.
  • A warrant of arrest has been issued for Abongile Makaleni after he failed to appear in court on a perjury charge. According to police, Makaleni and his colleague reported an armed robbery at the local police station, alleging two unknown men had pointed a firearm at them and robbed them of money while they were delivering bread in Lwandle. The police interrogated both Makaleni and his colleague separately, and soon realised their stories did not match. The detectives found no robbery had occurred and arrested both men on perjury charges. The pair appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court and were released on bail, but Makaleni has never turned up for his scheduled court appearances.
  • Police are looking for Mandlenkosi Hulani in connection with a murder in Nombula Street, Asanda Village on 8 February last year. It is alleged he fatally stabbed the deceased following an argument. Hulani was arrested for the murder and appeared in Strand Magistrates’ Court. He was released on bail, but failed to appear in court on the date of his next scheduled appearance, leading to the court issuing a warrant of arrest for him.
  • Yonela Maliti is wanted for the murder of her boyfriend at a house in Juqu Street, Asanda Village on 2 August 2019. It is alleged the deceased and Maliti had an argument at their home, which resulted in her fatally stabbing him. Following her arrest, Maliti appeared in court and was granted bail, but she never returned to the dock on her scheduled court date. A warrant of arrest has since been issued for her arrest.
  • Police are looking for Sipho Bidli in connection with a vehicle theft that occurred in Vukayi Street, Lwandle at 04:10 on 17 October 2020. It is believed the owner of the vehicle parked his car outside his colleague’s home and entered the residence. After a few minutes, he apparently heard the sound of his vehicle and immediately alerted the police, who spotted the car a few kilometres from where it was stolen. Police arrested Bidli, who appeared in court and was instructed to appear at a later date. But he never turned up and has not been found, and the court has issued a warrant for his arrest.
  • Yonela Mbasa is wanted in connection with a Christmas Day 2020 murder that occurred in Shumani Street, Asanda Village at 23:45. It is alleged the deceased and Mbasa were involved in an argument, and the latter stabbed him in the chest and he died on the scene. Mbasa was arrested and appeared in court on a murder charge. He was granted bail and given a new date to appear in court, but has not been seen since.
  • Stanley Mutsvange is wanted in connection with a rape in Ndzuzo Street, Nomzamo on 9 April 2020. It is alleged the complainant was on her way home from a shop when Mutsvange grabbed her, covered her mouth with his hand, pulled her underneath a truck and sexually assaulted her. He was arrested and appeared in court, but was released on bail and never returned to the dock. A warrant of arrest has been issued.
  • Tellmore Gweya is wanted for incidents of rape that occurred in Xaki Street, Asanda Village from December 2016 to April 2017. It’s alleged he raped a 10-year-old child several times when they had no adult supervision. Gweya was arrested, appeared in court and released on bail, but failed to adhere to the next court appearance date, so a warrant of arrest has been issued for his arrest.
  • A warrant of arrest has been issued for Christopher Nyajeni, who is wanted for a fraud case that occurred between 2013 and 2014. It is alleged that the complainant lost his identity document and, when he went to renew vehicle registration at the municipal office on 28 June 2016, he was informed of five warrants of arrest had been issued on his name. The complainant then found out four vehicles were registered on his name, all unknown him, so he opened a fraud case with the police. Nyaheni was arrested for fraud, appeared in court, but failed to appear again after he was granted bail.
