HEILBRON – The Democratic Alliance has escalated concerns about the R720 gravel road between Koppies, Edenville and Heilbron to the Provincial Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, and initiated formal oversight measures.
The DA said one month after calling for intervention, there has been no improvement to the road’s condition.
According to the party, certain areas have become inaccessible during rainfall, heavy vehicles transporting loads have been stuck for days, and cars, tractors and farming equipment have sustained damage.

Water continues to flood the road due to inadequate drainage, the DA said. Stormwater infrastructure remains damaged or destroyed, and in several sections the road has been reduced to a single lane with construction debris obstructing access.
The party said responsibility has been passed to contractors, but maintained government oversight remains necessary.
With the harvesting season approaching, the DA warned farmers will be unable to transport produce to silos and markets, placing strain on the agricultural value chain, including VKB Group and Senwes.
