CAPE TOWN – A Parow couple has been sentenced for fraud and uttering after being found in possession of two vehicles obtained through fraudulent means.
Mohamed (39) and Suraya Imran (37) were convicted in the Parow Regional Court on 9 July 2026 and sentenced on Wednesday 30 September. The investigation by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) began in March 2023, when members followed up on information regarding two vehicles – a white Toyota Fortuner and a white Mercedes-Benz ML250 – that had been obtained fraudulently. Both vehicles were found in the couple’s possession and seized.
Mohamed was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment on fraud charges, of which two years were suspended for five years. He received a further 12 months for uttering, which the court ordered to run concurrently with the unsuspended portion of his fraud sentence.
Suraya received a five-year sentence for fraud, suspended for five years, and a 12-month sentence for uttering, also suspended for five years.
Both accused were declared unfit to possess firearms. They were found not guilty on charges of money laundering and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).
