A community leader in Site B has urged the City to deploy more Law Enforcement officers to the area to help police combat crime. The leader, who declined to be named, made the appeal after three people were shot and killed on Pama Road on Saturday 13 June.
He said officers at Khayelitsha Police Station are struggling to police the area effectively due to a shortage of personnel and resources.
Law Enforcement deployment urged
“It is a fact that Khayelitsha Police Station is failing to police the entire area because it is too large. Site C and Thembokwezi should have their own police station. Sometimes I do not blame the officers because they do not have enough resources. The City needs to deploy more Law Enforcement officers here,” he said.
Community concerned about rising gun violence
He added that shootings have become a common occurrence in the police precinct. However, he expressed concern that innocent people are often caught up in the violence.
The community leader said he was not aware of the motive behind the latest shooting incident.
Provincial police spokesperson Col Andre Traut said detectives from the Serious Violent Crime Unit are investigating a triple murder following a shooting incident that occurred at approximately 23:40 on Saturday 13 June in Khayelitsha.

“Preliminary information suggests that unknown suspects approached the victims and opened fire before fleeing the area. The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation, and the motive for the attack has not yet been established. Officers have reinforced their presence in the area to maintain stability, prevent further violence and reassure the community while investigators pursue all available leads,” said Traut.
He added that no arrests have been made.
