Community leader urges residents not to take the law into their own hands

A community leader from SST in Town Two, Khayelitsha, has appealed to residents to stop taking the law into their own hands following the fatal shooting of an unidentified man on Thursday 21 May.

Fatal shooting reported on Michael Frank Hamling Street

The incident reportedly occurred at about 21:00 in Michael Frank Hamling Street.

The leader, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, said the community had been living in fear since the incident, and was unaware of what led to the shooting.

“I was already asleep when the incident occurred. I heard this morning (Friday 22 May) that someone had been shot and killed in the area. However, I do not have full information because people are afraid to speak out. I also do not want to speculate about the cause because I simply do not know.”

The community would wait for the police report before drawing conclusions, the leader added.
