CAPE TOWN – The City of Cape Town has confirmed that waste collection services will continue as normal over the upcoming Easter public holidays, with contingency plans in place to address any potential disruptions.

Residents can expect refuse and recycling collection, where applicable, to proceed on Monday 6 April, despite the public holiday. The same went for Good Friday, 3 April.

Collections to run as scheduled

The city’s Urban Waste Management Directorate has urged residents to place their bins out earlier than usual, noting that reduced traffic volumes over the holiday period may result in collection crews moving through routes faster than normal.

Residents are also encouraged to leave bins out until 21:00 to ensure collection, as the Easter period can bring a higher risk of delays or unexpected disruptions.

Should bins not be emptied on the scheduled day, residents are advised to place them out again daily until serviced and to report missed collections after 48 hours.

Recycling centres adjust operating hours

Community Recycling Centres and drop-off facilities will operate on public holiday hours on Good Friday and Easter Monday, while normal Sunday hours will apply on Easter Sunday.

The city has also reminded residents of current restrictions on garden waste disposal. Commercial customers may only dispose of garden greens at Coastal Park landfill, while residential customers are limited to one load per day.

Multiple channels for service requests

Residents experiencing issues with waste collection can log service requests through the city’s online portal, call centre, email, or mobile app.

The city has encouraged the public to make use of these platforms to ensure any service interruptions are addressed as quickly as possible over the holiday period.
