The Bulls face a monumental task when they return to face Northampton Saints, having already suffered heartbreak twice in th in their previous Champions Cup encounters. The South African side desperately needs to turn the tide in what promises to be another grueling European battle.
The most recent clash between these sides tells a stark story for the Bulls. On in December last year, Northampton Saints secured a convincing 30-21 victory over the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.
The Bulls have lost three on the trot against the Lions, Glasgow and most recently Bordeaux after leading at half time. Their effort on defence and poor discipline keep getting them into sticky situations.
Northampton Saints who ahve been struggling for form in the Premiership would want to see their dominance over the Bulls continue. Their last encounter against th Bulls at Franklin Gardens, in 2024 saw the Saints run rampant with a 59-22 victory.
The Bulls, are currently in 5th place of pool 4 while Saints are in second. The men from Pretoria will need a comprehensive performance to reignite their qualification hopes. The Bulls have the quality to compete but must find a way to translate their South African success to the European stage. The springbok front row in Gerhard Steenekamp, Wilco Louw and Johan Grobbelaar will be instrumental for the Bulls in dominating the set piece battle.
All evidence points to an uphill battle for the Bulls. Johan Ackermann has included nine Springboks in the touring squad, but they will be without, Handré Pollard, Ruan Nortje and Kurt-Lee Arendse. The Pretoria outfit have the fire power to upset their English counterparts, the players will need to be firing on all cylinders though.
The Saints, with home advantage, will be confident of extending their perfect pool record and taking another significant step toward qualification. For the Bulls,if they can tighten up their discipline they stand a chance of causing an English upset.
