BERLIN, Germany – German automotive giant BMW has been ordered to recall more than 330 000 cars worldwide due to fire safety concerns, marking the second major recall for the luxury brand in less than a month.

Safety concerns prompt immediate action

Germany’s transport regulator KBA announced on Friday that approximately 337 000 vehicles across five different models are “potentially concerned” by a safety issue involving incorrect routing of dashboard wiring. Of these, 29 000 vehicles are located in Germany.

The recall affects BMW’s premium lineup, including the luxury 7 Series and i7 flagship sedans, the executive 5 Series and i5 models, and the high-performance M5 sports sedan. All affected vehicles were manufactured between June 2022 and December 2025, according to details posted on the KBA’s website.

No incidents reported yet

Despite the serious safety concerns, the regulator confirmed that no incidents have been reported regarding this particular fire risk to date.

When contacted by AFP, a BMW spokesperson confirmed the recall numbers for Germany but was unable to verify the international figures cited by the KBA.

Pattern of recent recalls

This latest recall follows a series of safety issues for the Munich-based manufacturer. Earlier this month, BMW announced it would recall hundreds of thousands of cars globally over concerns that engine starters could potentially spark fires.

The company also faced significant challenges in late 2024 when it recalled 1.5 million vehicles due to a faulty braking system, forcing BMW to revise its 2024 financial outlook downwards.
