Bloodied kidnapping victim rescued from boot of car by police


WELKOM – Three men have been arrested for attempted murder and kidnapping after a bloodied victim was found in the boot of their car in Bronville.

Police received a complaint about a fight in Bronville at about 08:00 on Sunday 28 June. A community member alerted officers to a person locked inside the boot of a silver BMW.

Members intercepted the vehicle with three male occupants and conducted a search. They found an African male covered in blood with serious multiple injuries and a strong smell of petrol on him. The victim was taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Police noticed blood on the suspects’ hands and sneakers upon further inspection.

According to information, the suspects assaulted the victim at his home and accused him of stealing their car parts. They allegedly poured petrol on him and forcefully placed him in the boot of their car before driving off.

Police confiscated two pairs of blood-stained sneakers and the vehicle allegedly used in the commission of the crime. The items were booked in as evidence for further investigations.

The three males aged 25, 27 and 40 will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
