KOFFIEFONTEIN – A 43-year-old woman from Koffiefontein in the Free State has been arrested in connection with a gruesome knife-stabbing incident involving another woman. Sgt Sinah Mpakane, provincial spokesperson for the police, said the suspect is expected to appear before the Koffiefontein Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 15 October, facing a charge of attempted murder.
The suspect’s arrest on Tuesday 13 October followed an attack on the victim on Sunday, following a brawl at a well-known tavern in the township of Ditlhake.
Mpakane said the victim, Magdeline Mokoaledi (45), was admitted at a local hospital for medical treatment of severe wounds sustained during the bloody incident. She said Mokoaledi was allegedly stabbed multiple times following an argument at a tavern at about 20:45. “The victim sustained stab wounds to the left shoulder, left breast, and right side of the chin,” Mpakane said.
She said according to the report received, Mokoaledi was sitting with two of her friends when the suspect arrived at the venue.
“An argument ensued between the victim and the suspect, and they started pushing each other, leading to a fight. The fight was stopped by people who were nearby,” said Mpakane. She said that both the victim and the suspect are well-known to each other.
