There was big excitement on the campus of the University of the Free State (UFS) when a partial solar eclipse was viewed on Tuesday 17 February.
A special event was held at the Sci-Ed Science Education Centre on campus.
Prof. Matie Hoffman and Mariëtte Erwee presented a guided viewing and learning experience to the public as they observed the partial solar eclipse using safe viewing methods and interactive explanations.
Also, at the university’s Department of Physics students and staff members viewed the partial eclipse and took commemorative photos of the phenomena.
A year from now, on 6 February 2027, another partial solar eclipse will be visible in Bloemfontein.
