BLOEMFONTEIN – The Free State Cheetahs will be determined to maintain their winning momentum this weekend when they host their bogey team, the Boland Cavaliers, in the Currie Cup Premier Division fixture in the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday afternoon 23 August. Kick-off is at 15:00.

This clash against fourth-placed Boland carries significant weight for play-off seeding and a semifinal berth. The visiting Cavaliers have had the upper hand in recent meetings between the two sides, boasting a three-match winning streak over the Free Staters.

Fresh off a thrilling 62 – 52 victory over the Bulls XV last week, the Cheetahs head into round 6 on 21 points.

They are in an excellent position to secure a semifinal spot, currently sitting second on the log, having an identical points count to that of the defending champions and table-topping Griquas of the Northern Cape. A single victory from their final two matches will guarantee the Free State giants their play-off place, while maximum points will book a coveted home semifinal in Bloemfontein.

The Currie Cup is nearing its climax, with teams pushing for a top-four finish in their pursuit of South Africa’s premier rugby championship.

Cheetahs head coach Frans Steyn demands all-round improvement with the contest at its peak. Victory over the Cavaliers will inspire the Cheetahs for the next tough game against the Pumas, away in Mpumalanga next Friday, on 28 August. Across their last five tournament meetings, the scoreline heavily favored the Cheetahs, winning four of six meetings.

Tickets selling at R30 for Sunday’s match are still available on ticketpro.co.za and will be sold until 12:00 on Sunday.
