The Free State province’s overall dam levels have remained unchanged this week at 101,6%. This is according to the latest weekly State of Reservoirs report released by the Department of Water and Sanitation. Although the weekly dam levels held steady this week, they still show an increase of 0,8% compared to the same period in the previous year.
Krugersdrift Dam has decreased from 100,5% to 103.1%. Sterkfontein Dam has sightly decreased from 99,4% to 99,3. Metsi-Matsho Dam levels has remained the same at 98,3%.
One of South Africa’s largest dams, Gariep Dam situated at the boarder of the Free State and the Eastern Cape province near Norvalspont in the Xhariep district rose by a total of 1,3% as the dam levels for this week is 100,9% from 99,6% last week.
Fika-Patso Dam levels held steady at 96,7%. Bloemhof Dam incurred an increase of 1,2% with a level of 105,8% from 104,6%. Meanwhile, Groothoek Dam is at an increase of 0,7% from a dam level of at 98,5% to 99,2%.
Vanderkloof Dam, situated downstream of Gariep Dam is currently at 100,2% which is a decrease from 101,9% recorded last week, Welbedacht Dam is at a 100% from 95,1%, while Rustfontein Dam increased by 0,5% with a level of 100% from 99,5%.
The Department continues to monitor all water systems and encourages consumers to use water wisely and always remember to report any damages or leaks to the municipality.
