GQEBERHA – A recent business robbery incident at Baywest Mall is currently being investigated by SAPS Kabega Park.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, the incident occurred on Monday, 16 March, at approximately 18:05 in Gqeberha.

“It is alleged that a group of seven armed male suspects entered the store after confronting the store manager at gunpoint and forcing her back into the premises,” she said. “Inside the store, the staff members were gathered in a storeroom while the suspects demanded access to the safe.”

Janse Van Rensburg added that the suspects then removed a number of mobile phones from both the safe and a display cabinet.

“The suspects fled the scene on foot with approximately 62 mobile phones, an undisclosed amount of cash, and clothing items with a total estimated value of R118,000,” she said.

Baywest Mall’s spokesperson Lindsey Davies said that the mall’s security team reacted immediately and contacted SAPS.

“The safety and security of our shoppers, tenants, and staff remain our top priority,” she added, noting that the mall operates as normal following the incident.
