SWELLENDAM – The Western Cape Government has been praised for its departments’, entities’ and municipalities’ outstanding 2023-’24 audit outcomes.
The Auditor-General (AG) presented the province with awards during the Premier’s Coordinating Forum (PCF) in Swellendam on Tuesday 19 August.
The awards recognised institutions that achieved clean audits – unqualified audit opinions with no findings – under the Municipal Financial Management Act and the Provincial Financial Management Act.
During the 2023-’24 financial year, 18 provincial departments and entities, and 20 municipalities in the Western Cape achieved the standard, demonstrating strong financial governance and a commitment to quality service delivery.

“The AG’s recognition is a welcomed testament to the unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and clean governance across all spheres of government in the Western Cape,” said Deidré Baartman, provincial minister of Finance. “Clean audits are not just about compliance – they enable investment, stimulate economic growth and job creation, improve governance, and ensure that residents benefit from quality service delivery.”
Baartman further thanked all of the provincial departmental and municipal finance teams, who showed that “rigorous financial management is both possible and effective”.
“This achievement reinforces our commitment to ensure that public resources are managed effectively for the benefit of our residents.”
