PRETORIA – The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is inviting the public to photograph nature at its botanical and zoological gardens to commemorate Nature Photography Day on 15 June.
Visitors can capture images at any SANBI garden between 12 and 16 June and share up to three photographs on the institute’s social media platforms using the hashtags #SANBINaturePhoto2026, #Naturethroughyourlens, and #SANBI4Nature whilst tagging the specific garden visited.
Twelve visitors will receive a day visit to SANBI’s botanical and zoological gardens.
“National botanical and zoological gardens are windows to South African unique biodiversity on your doorstep,” says Nontsikelelo Mpulo, senior manager for marketing, communication and commercialisation. “Our gardens allow visitors to enjoy the benefits of spending time in nature in accessible, urban green spaces.”
SANBI has introduced winter season pricing across the majority of its gardens, with reduced entry fees. The gardens currently feature flowering aloes and winter birdlife.
Nature Photography Day is celebrated globally and provides an opportunity for individuals to share images of nature with other enthusiasts worldwide.
Entries close 16 June. Photographs can be shared on SANBI’s Facebook, X and Instagram platforms.
