KROONSTAD – The murder case against a girlfriend of police officer Tseliso Elia Johannes Mofutsana has been re-enrolled for trial in the Kroonstad Regional Court on Thursday, 19 March. Re-enrollment followed the availability of forensic DNA results and review of the docket by the Senior Public Prosecutor (SPP) at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in South Africa in Free State.

The provincial Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit investigated the murder of Mofutsana, who held the rank of constable at the time. He died age 36.

WO Fikiswa Matoti, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, said the woman was served with a summons on Friday, 13 March to reappear in court on Thursday, facing a charge of murder with a weapon. She allegedly stabbed the officer to death with a knife.

Matoti said the case was originally set for trial on 7 May last year but was temporarily withdrawn due to the unavailability of forensic evidence at the time.

“It is alleged that an argument broke out between Mofutsana and his girlfriend in the early hours of the morning of 31 March 2024. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly stabbed him with a knife, resulting in his death. The suspect fled the scene thereafter,” said Matoti. She said the officer’s body was found later that morning at his residence.

Matoti said an investigation revealed the tragic incident occurred at the residence after returning from a drinking spree with friends on the previous day, 30 March.
