South African Airways is monitoring geopolitical developments in the Middle East as the national carrier assesses potential impacts on global jet fuel supply.

The airline said it does not anticipate immediate disruptions to fuel availability, citing South Africa’s multiple supply channels including domestic refining capacity and established import infrastructure.

SAA operates under fuel supply agreements with licensed providers at all airports it serves, with suppliers maintaining inventories and infrastructure to support continuous operations.

Group chief executive John Lamola said the airline industry is accustomed to planning for uncertainties caused by geopolitical developments that can influence global oil prices and aviation logistics.

“At SAA, we work proactively with fuel suppliers, airports, and industry partners to safeguard operational continuity. We also maintain robust risk management and supply planning frameworks that allow us to anticipate and mitigate potential disruptions while continuing to serve our customers reliably,” said Lamola.

The airline said it has sufficient fuel arrangements in place to support its flight schedule based on current planning and supplier assurances.

SAA said it remains focused on ensuring operational continuity and minimising inconvenience to customers as global developments continue to unfold.
