SESHEGO – A 66-year-old former South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier currently on parole is expected in court again in connection with the murder of a 56-year-old woman. This comes only a few years after he was released on parole in 2022, having served part of a life sentence imposed for murdering three women in 2002.

Col. Malesela Ledwaba, spokesperson for the Limpopo police, said the suspect was scheduled to appear in the Seshego Magistrates’ Court on Monday 9 February, facing a charge of murder. This followed his arrest on Thursday 5 February.

He confirmed a coordinated operation involving multi-disciplinary agents arrested the suspect after he had attempted to flee after allegedly running over the victim with a vehicle. Law enforcement agents include the provincial Tracking team, the provincial Investigations unit, and external law enforcement partner Tshimollo Security and Investigation.

Ledwaba said the suspect was reportedly residing with the deceased at her parental home in Seshego, Zone 3.

“The suspect allegedly ran over and killed his 56-year-old girlfriend with a motor vehicle during a heated argument. According to reports, the suspect thereafter abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. The victim was certified dead at the scene,” said Ledwaba.

The identities of both the victim and suspect have been withheld.

Ledwaba said a member of Tshimollo Security and Investigation, who was in the vicinity, pursued the suspect and alerted the police after spotting him hiding at a nearby house.

“Police operational teams responded swiftly and apprehended the suspect,” said Ledwaba.

The suspect was previously sentenced in 2002 by the Polokwane High Court for the murder of three women, including his girlfriend at the time. He fatally shot the victims in Westenburg. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
