The blue side of Paarl faces a challenging season with many of their fixtures taking place away from home. Sitting at the top of the mountain attracts all challengers. Every team that squares off against the best wants to beat the best.
Paarl Boys High are looking ahead to the 2026 season putting 2025 success behind them.

Faith, family and team in that order. These are the three pillars on which Paarl Boys High have built their rugby programme.

According to head coach of the 1st XV, Sean Erasmus, it is these three things that have helped them stay humble in good times and helped them overcome times when they were struggling.

“I believe in creating a culture first, success is a byproduct of having a strong culture and good environment,” Erasmus said.

Boishaai, had a stellar 2025 season with their only loss coming by way of an equally impressive Oakdale side early in the season. They were ranked the unofficial number one team in the country for the year and came back to beat Paarl Gimnasium in the world’s biggest school rugby match by two points. But can they replicate the same success in 2026?

“We had a good season and the win in the interschools is always special, but that is done, something for the 2025 reunion group to reminisce about. Our pillars remain in place, but it is up to this year’s group on what that looks like,” he said.

The blue side of the Paarl have a challenging season with many of their fixtures being away. Being at the top of the mountain brings all chalengers. Every team that squares off against the best wants to beat the best. Even outside of the ‘big five’ teams bring extra fire when they play Boys High which makes Erasmus’ task even more difficult.

“We don’t have easy matches. We want to keep playing against the best. Every team brings their own unique challenges that we need to prepare for,” he said.

Head of Rugby, Neil de Bruin left the school late last year to join the Bulls. which might put a damper on the Boys High preparations.

“I am sad that Neil is gone, we had a good relationship as coaches and as friends. He is a good man and an excellent coach his departure will definately open a void,” Erasmus explained

With 6- 8 weeks until the first match kicks off and summer sport in full swing in the first term Boys High will not have alot of time to defend their spot at the top. It is here where the focus on culture and environment will make the difference.
