Ten AGU officers have been denied bail following their arrest in connection with an alleged gangster’s death.

CAPE TOWN – A group of police officers attached to the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) in the Western Cape will remain behind bars this festive season after their bail applications were denied, while one officer’s application succeeded.

Altogether 11 AGU officers were arrested at the beginning of December on a charge of murder, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, kidnapping and torture. The state alleges that the officers tortured Wade Price, an alleged gangster from Manenberg, to his death. It is also alleged that Price and three of his friends were kidnapped and assaulted by the officers.

The AGU members have been in custody since their arrest.

They appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (23 December). One officer has been granted bail due to a medical condition, while her colleagues remain behind bars.

Since the officers’ arrest for Price’s murder community members within Manenberg have been divided. Some feel that Price’s death cannot be justified, while also pointing out the influence he had on youngsters. While others are angered by his death.

The case has been postponed to 29 January 2026.
