PHUTHADITJHABA – The Phutaditjhaba police have launched a manhunt for three armed men who shot and injured a couple during an early morning home invasion at Mphatlalatsane Village, near Phuthaditjhaba.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 03:20 when the couple were asleep at their residence. Three unidentified suspects wearing balaclavas forcibly broke down the front door and gained entry to the property.
The intruders allegedly demanded money from the victims. When the husband attempted to defend his family using a spade, both he and his wife were shot by the suspects during the ensuing struggle.
The assailants subsequently made off with two mobile phones, a television set, identity documents, and bank cards before fleeing the scene on foot.
Both victims were transported to hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
Police have opened a case of house robbery and two counts of attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
