HLOHLOLWANE – The police of the Free State town of Hlohlolwane, formerly Clocolan, in collaboration with local farmers have arrested three suspects following an alleged house robbery and rape incident that occurred on a farm.

Violent farm attack

On Wednesday 10 December at approximately 22:15, farm workers were awakened by a loud banging on the door and barking dogs outside. One of the workers noticed the door had been forced open as three suspects entered, demanding valuables which they were unable to obtain.

One female farm worker, who was hiding inside a wardrobe, was discovered and two of the suspects allegedly raped her. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

Swift investigation and arrests

On Thursday, a preliminary investigation by police led to the arrest of all three suspects at Hlohlolwane. A firearm believed to have been stolen during the robbery was recovered during the arrests.

Significantly, two of the suspects are believed to be employees on the same farm where the incident took place.

Court appearance

The suspects are expected to appear before Clocolan Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges of house robbery, rape, and illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Free State police have commended the collaborative efforts between farmers and law enforcement, which contributed to the swift arrest of the suspects. This partnership demonstrates the effectiveness of community cooperation in combating rural crime.
