KOMANI – One person has died, and 32 others sustained injuries, with one in critical condition, following a head-on collision involving a Greyhound bus and a VW Tiago on the N6 road yesterday, 25 November.
Eastern Cape transport department spokesperson Unathi Binqose said that the crash occurred late last night (25 November) at approximately 22:30 at the foot of Penhoek Pass on the N6 road between Komani and Jamestown.
He said that the critically injured patient was transported to Frontier Hospital in Komani for medical attention.
“The deceased was the driver of the VW Tiago who was trapped in the vehicle. The 31 other passengers refused transportation to hospital,” said Binqose.
He further expressed condolences to the affected family.
“We wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased in this accident,” said Binqose.
“We’re mindful of the fact that things could have been a lot worse, given the fact that there were more than 30 people that were involved in this crash.”
MEC for Transport in the Eastern Cape, Xolile Nqatha, is calling on road users, motorists, in particular, to be extra vigilant, extra cautious, and avoid avoidable crashes like head-on collisions.
