BLOEMFONTEIN – A grief-stricken member of the Leeuw family who has been identified as a suspect in the murder of young Onkarabetse Leeuw (5) is set to reappear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 20 November.
Vuyiswa Joyce Leeuw (29), who is reportedly five months pregnant, was arrested in connection with Onkarabetse’s murder in Glen, an agricultural area located 20km outside Bloemfontein.
She has been remanded in custody since her arrest on Thursday 13 November.
The boy vanished on 8 November, around 16:00, after leaving home to collect a cap from a friend. His body was found days later, concealed beneath a cardboard box in dense vegetation on the southern periphery of the Glen location.

Vuyiswa is the mother of Katleho Joy Leeuw (3), who was found murdered after she had disappeared from her home on 23 October. The little girl’s body was discovered two days later by a passer-by near her home, bearing evidence of sexual assault and murder.

Katleho’s uncle Kholisiwe Jonas (30) was thereafter arrested in connection with the incident. He briefly appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on 4 November on charges of murder and rape. He is currently admitted to the Free State Psychiatric Complex for observation, for 30 days.

The tragic events of the disappearance and murder of both the children and the subsequent arrest of two family members played out within a span of 21 days. The Free State police have registered cases of kidnapping and murder at the Glen Police Station in connection with both deaths. The investigations into both murder cases are ongoing.
The Leeuw family is reeling from the brutal killing of the two minor children. The incidents have sent shockwaves through the Glen community, with residents expressing outrage over the targeting of young children.
