PATENSIE – What started as a routine crop-dusting operation Monday morning, 10 November, turned into a fatal tragedy when a Robinson helicopter struck power lines and crashed on a farm outside Patensie in the Eastern Cape, instantly killing a 43-year-old female pilot.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli confirmed that police have opened an inquest docket following the incident on Roodegrond farm.

“It is believed that the freak incident occurred at about 07:45, when the helicopter was spraying crops at the farm outside Patensie,” said Nkohli.

He said that the identity of the deceased pilot is withheld until a formal identification process is concluded.
