JOHANNESBURG – Three suspected kidnappers were fatally shot during a confrontation with Gauteng police in Parktown earlier today (Friday 24 October).

The suspects, whose identities have not yet been released, were allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a Chinese national in June and had recently attempted to abduct another businessman in Gauteng, according to preliminary police reports.

Police officers intercepted the trio whilst they were reportedly en route to commit an armed robbery. The confrontation resulted in all three suspects being shot and killed, though details of the exact circumstances remain under investigation.

Major General Fred Kekana is at the active crime scene in Parktown, where forensic teams and investigators continue to gather evidence. The area remains cordoned off as authorities piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
