POTCHEFSTROOM. – Police in Potchefstroom are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a 19-year-old motorist died in the early hours of Thursday, 11 September.
The North-West University student died after she allegedly lost control of her vehicle in an early morning accident at a Potchefstroom intersection.
According to police, the student was driving a white Suzuki Vitara when she lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Chief Albert Luthuli and Beyers Naudé Street.
“The motorist was certified dead at the scene,” police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed.
Meanwhile, North-West University spokesperson Louis Jacobs said it was deeply distressing for the university to lose one of its students.
“It’s always very saddening for the NWU, particularly when we lose a student – one of the NWU community members,” Jacobs said.
“At this stage, all possible support is being offered to colleagues, friends and family. It remains deeply distressing for the NWU to lose one of our students, regardless of the circumstances.”
The investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing.
