Fatal shooting outside Tygerberg Hospital believed to be gang related

Western Cape police confirmed on Friday afternoon (15 August) they were investigating a murder following a shooting incident earlier in the day, metres away from the entrance to Tygerberg Hospital in Parow.

The incident occurred near to a set of traffic lights in Francie van Zijl Drive.

Police spokesperson WO Joseph Swartbooi said the motive for the attack on an adult male was believed to be gang-related, and Parow police detectives were combing the crime scene for clues.

Swartbooi said the suspects fled in an undisclosed direction and had yet to be arrested.

He said the police rushed to the scene around 07:50, and on their arrival found the body of an adult male in a motor vehicle who had sustained gunshots. The victim was declared dead on the scene. A spokesperson for Tygerberg Hospital told the newspaper the incident had occurred outside the premises, and the vehicle was not on its way to the hospital. She said the police were handling the case.
