QWAQWA – A jealous ex-boyfriend from Qwaqwa, together with two accomplices, are set to appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrates’ Court today – Friday, 15 August. They face charges of housebreaking, robbery, and assault.

This followed a violent attack on the man’s former lover and the woman’s new boyfriend on Sunday, 10 August, in Qwaqwa’s Makwane Village.

The three suspects – aged 22, 24, and 25 – were arrested on Wednesday, 13 August, following tracing by the Makwane police detectives. WO Mmako Mophiring, spokesperson for the police, said the arrestees reportedly attacked the woman, including her two friends on 10 August about 02:00. He said the complainant reported that she was at her home with her new boyfriend and a friend when they were ambushed. Mophiring said the victims reported they were enjoying drinks when they were attacked by the arrestees, which includes the ex-boyfriend.

“The three suspects allegedly kicked open the kitchen door and entered the house upon the door falling from its hinges. The complainant’s ex-boyfriend allegedly attacked the woman with an iron pipe, hitting her on the head. His accomplices allegedly stole a cellphone, a pair of sneakers and clothing items, before fleeing on foot,” said Mophiring.

He said further investigations by the police revealed the ex-boyfriend has a pending case of assault. The pending matter relates to domestic violence with a different person.
