It is mind blowing that we are living in a world filled with crime.

On the West Coast, communities fall victim to these vicious crimes every day. Just over this past weekend three men were stabbed to death, a young school boy was robbed in broad daylight and there were cases of assault and more. Shocking, isn’t it?

Besides these, we still face challenges such as poverty, load shedding, unemployment, corruption and insufficient infrastructure, just to name a few issues.

As we await the State of the Nation Address (SONA), which takes place today (Thursday 8 February), many South Africans eagerly wait and expect the President to address these issues and provide solutions.

On another note, other South Africans have simply given up on the system and any words and promises made by government. It simply seems like one never-ending spiral of disappointment with no chance of getting better.

We also celebrate 30 years of freedom this year, but are we really free? Still bound by the shackles of crime, poverty and unemployment, will this ever change? It may sound like a cliché, but don’t give up and don’t lose hope, South Africa. Believe that change will come and there are many positives to look up to.
