The 46th annual South Africa National Masters Athletics Championships were held on 4-6 May by Western Province Masters Athletics. Various local masters took part and ran, walked, threw and jumped in their respective five-year age increments. The outstanding West Coast athlete of the weekend was Ronel Beukes, who broke the South African record in the 100 m in the 60-64 years category. The West Coast athletes won 25 South African medals, of which six were gold, seven silver and 12 bronze. The locals (behind, from left) were Eugene Gouws, Rencia Swarts, Patricia Mentoor, Ian Flack, Alwyn Christians, Douglas Hector and Hendrick Basson and (front) Clive Cupido, Sakkie Mentoor, Ronel Beukes, Phillip Jacobs, Afrika Bruintjies and Raydon Benjamin. Absent members, who were throwing javelin, were Veron le Roux, Piet Dokter, Eusta Lemmetjie and Mina Dokter.
