West Coast anglers community involved in funding initiative.

In celebration of World Fisheries Day the West Coast National Park (SANParks) gave back to the anglers fishing community on Tuesday 21 November. This is part of their social investment initiative. An amount of R314 000 was invested.

Fishing equipment including nets, floats and nylon ropes were handed over to 24 anglers who also attended numerous workshops. According to Yolanda Assy, manager of corporate social investment, the community fund was established in 2013.

Assy explained that the funds are ploughed back into community development.

“The angler project is a part of food security, because most of these anglers are fishing for their livelihoods,” said Assy. She adds that this project will be rolled out to other communities as well. West Coast National Park believes that this act of support is a beacon of good, striving to elevate lives.

Phase 2 of this programme will be done next year.
