The West Coast Kickboxing team recently took part in the South African Kickboxing Championship and, despite many challenges, won various medals.
At this year’s championship, held in Mossel Bay from 12 to 15 May, the local team was much smaller and rallied thanks to support from various sponsors.
The 11-strong team came home with five South African titles (gold), four silver medals and three bronze medals.
“An achievement we are really proud of, as our team was up against various districts and provinces,” said sensei Pine Pienaar of West Coast Kickboxing.
“We would like to thank our judges and referees who worked just as hard to ensure they represented the West Coast proudly. A big thank you to the coaches, parents and, of course, the students who worked extra hard to reach their goals.”
He added the tour would not have been possible without sponsors.
“A big thank you to Duferco Steel Processing, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, West Coast District Sport Council and every individual who contributed financially to the tour.”
