Marilene van den Bergh, a learner from Vredenburg High School, has been chosen for the Western Cape School Chess Team.
Van den Bergh took part in the Western Cape High Schools u-19 Women’s Championships and won the silver medal with a score of 5 out of 6.
She won four games, had two draws and finished the tournament in second place out of 34 players. She will participate in the u-18 girls section of the national schools chess championships.
The National Winter Games will take place between Tuesday 4 and Friday 7 July in Gauteng.
