Caylen and Miecke Kleynhans from Curro Langebaan are two learners who excel at chess, both online and over the board.
In 2020, Caylen was West Coast u-9 girls champion, and in 2021 Miecke was u-7 girls champion. During the pandemic they competed online on chess engines such as ChessKid, Chess.com and Lichess.
They were able to do lessons and puzzles as well as compete online at a time when over-the-board chess was restricted due to the pandemic. Caylen and Miecke were both invited to compete in the online South African Junior Chess Championships, due to their excellent participation and achievements in chess over the past two years. They have now been invited to compete in the World Cadet and Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in Greece from Saturday 30 April to Wednesday 4 May.
