Langebaan Athletics Club’s athletes Jason Ocks, Jadon Ocks and Valentino Beukes.

Jadon Ocks, Jason Ocks and Valentino Beukes made the West Coast proud at the 2022 Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Multi-events Championships in Sasolburg.

The three athletes from the Langebaan Athletics Club formed part of the u-16 Boland ASA relay team that participated in the championship on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 April.

The boys took part in different categories. Jadon competed in the 4×100 m relay and came second. Together, Jadon and Jason took part in the medley and came first. Valentino and Jadon took part in the 4×400 m relay and took first place.

Coach Christopher Rodgers said he is extremely proud of them. “It’s years of hard work. I always tell my athletes to trust the process. We do not make them fit for one season, but condition and prepare the whole body for the long run.”

The three athletes told Weslander it was a honour to represent the West Coast at the event and that they were happy with their results.

They were warmly welcomed back with positive posters and smiles by residents of Langebaan. They said it was unexpected, but they were very happy.

Jadon advised young athletes to keep practising and stay positive and disciplined and trust in the Lord through the process.

His brother Jason shared the same sentiments, and said young athletes need to associate with friends who support and motivate them.

Valentino also wanted to share with young athletes that it all takes time and hard work.

“There is no elevator to success,” he said, “you have to take the stairs.”
