A diesel tanker overturned on the Hopefield Road (R45) near the Rainbow Chicken Farm on Wednesday 5 April, after a collision with a small motor vehicle and bakkie. All vehicles were going in the direction of Vredenburg. According to Tania Helfrich, spokesperson for the local police, the driver of the tanker allegedly did not see the two vehicles which then caused the collision.
Helfrich can confirm that two occupants in the small vehicle were seriously injured and taken to hospital. She also confirms that one of the two occupants succumbed to their injuries the following day.
“A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated. These charges are likely to be changed,” she said.
