Langebaan Athletics Club is delighted to announce it will be hosting the West Coast Street Mile Series in the streets of Langebaan.
It will be a first for the West Coast and will span over five Saturdays, beginning on 27 May, 17 June, 24 June, 1 July and the grand finale on 8 July.
The Street Mile Series is literally as stated. Participants will run over a mile over a series of Saturday’s, to be crowned the West Coast Street Mile Champion. This event has been approved by Boland Athletics and the Saldanha Bay Municipality and it is run in accordance with Athletics South Africa (ASA) and Boland Athletics rules. There will be R56 000 prize money up for grabs as well.
The age group categories vary from 9 years old till master athletes up to 70+. All clubs and schools are welcome to compete. School athletes must run in their school attire and clubs in their club running gear with a 2023 ASA licence number.
Entry fees for the school athletes and junior club athletes is R30 and R40 for senior and masters club athletes per event.
The school with the most entries in the series will get R3 500 cash and a trophy, and the best athletics club win a trophy and bragging rights for 2023.
In each age category the three best athletes will be crowned with prize money and a specially made winners medal. All winners will boast with new records for the first and historical West Coast Street Mile Series 2023.
Langebaan Athletics club is a local athletics club whose mission is the development of athletics in the West Coast district.
They cater for the young and the old, the fit and the unfit and compete in road running, track and field (juniors and masters) and cross-country.
