International Day for Street Children (IDSC) was celebrated in Vredenburg on Tuesday 12 April. IDSC has been celebrated globally to recognise the humanity, dignity and defiance of street children in the face of unimaginable hardship. The work and dedication shown by those working on the streets with children was also recognised. Esmarelda McKay from Government Communications and information System (GCIS) also had an enlightening message to share for Freedom Month, especially how people can make a difference in the lives of the homeless. Stakeholders also raised money for a homeless man to ensure he, at the very least, slept in a shelter. Stakeholders included GCIS, Mfesane, Vital Connection, Lifeline Charity Projects, correctional services, local police, Social Development and the Saldanha Bay Municipality. Pictured are police officers Esmiralda Baatjies from Langebaan police, Joulene Losper from Hopefield police and Fagmeda Carelse from Vredenburg police.
