The West Coast District Sport Council and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) District’s 2022 sport awards ceremony was held on 9 August in the White City Multipurpose Centre.
Among the many local nominees were athletes of the Strandlopers Athletics Club. Winners at the local event will now represent the West Coast at the provincial awards on 17 September at the Old Mutual Sport Complex in Pinelands. The Strandlopers that took top honours were Leander Pholman, who was named the Sportsman of the Year (with a disability), Clive Cupido named as the Photographer of the Year and Nikki Schlehmeyer named as West Coast DCAS’s Volunteer of the Year. Wimpie Schlehmeyer was runner-up for the Team of the Year award.
