The young athletes of the Strandlopers Athletics Club will soon head for the Western Cape Cross Country Championships thanks to a wonderful performance at the Boland championships.
Saturday 13 August the nine Strandlopers represented the West Coast at the Schools Boland Cross Country Championships held at Dal Josaphat Stadium in Paarl. Of the nine four took podium places. Santino Appels (Vredenburg High School) won gold, Alfonzo Jordaan (Weston High School) won silver, Leander Pholman (West Coast School) took the gold home and Rebecca Flack (Curro Langebaan) took the bronze.
Seven of the juniors made the Boland cross-country team, and will be competing in George on Saturday (27 August) at the provincial championships. Here they will compete to make the team for the SA Schools Athletics (SASA) championships in Gauteng.
“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the juniors running at the championships the best of luck as well as the Strandlopers who are taking part in the Comrades,” Wimpie Schlehmeyer of the club said.
