With the 2022 school year that kicked off on Wednesday 19 January, the Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM) junior deputy mayor Stacey Langley, a grade 12 learner at Weston High School, would like to encourage other learners.
“I would like to wish all the scholars and teachers a prosperous 2022,” her message goes. “The year 2021 was filled with trials and tribulations, but we overcame that and I want to encourage all the learners to do the best they can in everything that they choose to do.
“I encourage everyone to try and stay motivated and committed throughout this year and achieve great results, because motivation is what gets you going, but staying consistent is what keeps you going.
“As junior deputy mayor of the SBM I focus on mental health among youth, and although we should stay committed throughout this year we should also stay mentally healthy by having time to ourselves, as we cannot always control the stress in our lives. So we need to prioritise our mental health as well.
“Lastly, I want to encourage everyone by saying the teachers are there to help you and open doors of opportunities, but you need to enter through those doors on your own.
“[Blues musician] BB King once said, ‘The beautiful thing about learning is that no-one can take it away from you.’”
