The local NSRI team recently helped in St Helena Bay.


The team of the local National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) was recently on hand to help in St Helena Bay.

Nic Stevens, NSRI Mykonos deputy station commander, related: “On Tuesday 22 March, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were placed on alert to evacuate an injured crewman off a bulk-carrier motor vessel at anchor in St Helena Bay. “Our sea rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 5 launched at 15:55 and on reaching the vessel a NSRI paramedic and a NSRI rescue swimmer were transferred onto the vessel.”

According to Stevens, the patient was in a stable condition and transferred onto the sea rescue craft. The patient was taken to St Helena Bay Harbour and then put in the care of his ship’s agent to get further medical care.

The team returned to the NSRI rescue base with the operation completed by 21:45.
