Keeping up with market demands to cater for the influx of new residents relocating to the beautiful coastal town, SPAR St Helena Bay, on Thursday 9 November, celebrated the relaunch of the store boasting a completely new look and feel.

Serving the community of St Helena Bay for the past 10 years, having opened its door in 2013, the store has seen many changes over the past decade. From expanding the bakery, the liquor outlet TOPS and the receiving area, to adding new equipment constantly, the owners have consistently looked for ways to enhance the customer’s experience at the store.

“In 2022 we upgraded our generator plant to cope with the load shedding. With a major influx of new residents over the past five years the trading area was under pressure especially over peak season,” shared owner André Olivier.

He and his family joined the SPAR Group in November 2014 and took the reins of the store over, after buying it from the original developer. General Manager Carlene Schnetler has been at the helm since 2019, with 10 managers in various departments reporting to her and a permanent staff complement of 50.

The newly revamped store boasts a fresh look and floor layout.

“All departments and the trading floor were upgraded to the new SPAR specs and look,” Olivier pointed out.

“A new addition in Home Meal Replacement (HMR) is the food-stall concept, including ‘Fire and Grill’. Soon we will also launch the SPAR 2 U delivery service, bringing our SPAR brand straight to your doorstep.”

To give customers a true West Coast feel, the store has adopted a nautical theme in its revamp.

While plenty has gone into making the store even more appealing and visually attractive to customers, Olivier assures that the friendly atmosphere and customer service clients have come to experience over the years, has remained.

“We work hard to ensure all our customers have their daily needs met and our tourists have an experience of true St Helena Bay hospitality,” he said.

“Our customers enjoy choosing among our freshly baked items in our bakery, juicy fruit from our fruit-and-veg department or a choice cut of meat from our butchery. Hot Foods help keep our customers satisfied with their warm cooked meals and takeaways.

“All this, and more, makes St Helena Bay SPAR and TOPS your first choice for a happy shopping experience.”

The celebratory event was also marked by the official opening of the new De Agterbaai TOPS run by André junior.

Adding a second TOPS to their portfolio, the Olivier family purchased the Blue Bottle store in Stompneusbaai, which they have revamped and rebranded as De Agterbaai TOPS, serving the surrounding areas of Britannia Bay, Lampiesbaai and Stompneusbaai.
