On 19 August 700 vehicles passed through the Saldanha Bay Municipality’s smart roadblock.

To complement the work of the newly established Warrant of Arrest Unit and ongoing Traffic Fines Roadshow, the Saldanha Bay Municipality conducted its first so called “smart” roadblock on Friday, 19 August on the Vredenburg-Saldanha road.

With the smart roadblocks, traffic officials make use of an automatic number plate recognition system (ANPR) that detects vehicles with outstanding fines and warrants.

Through this intervention, the Municipality reinforced the message that motorists must take responsibility for fines received. The roadblock was executed from 09:00 to 12:00 and 700 vehicles passed through the area during this time.

Where appropriate, motorists were given opportunities to pay outstanding fines, submit requests for the reduction of fines or to make enquiries about their fines’ status.
