South African sauvignon blanc proved its excellence once again as one of the top five countries by the number of medals won at the largest and most significant international competition entirely dedicated to sauvignon blanc, the 2022 Concours Mondial du Sauvignon, this year in Portugal.

Groote Post represented the West Coast and received a silver medal for its Groote Post Seasalter Sauvignon Blanc 2021 wine.

Groote Post winemaker, Lukas Wentzel, said it’s an absolute honour and a privilege to have won a silver medal at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon competition. The estate won gold for its Seasalter last year as well.

“It is the most prestigious sauvignon blanc competition in the entire world. We have been able to compete against other world-class sauvignon blancs, it just really showcases the quality of grapes we have here in Darling along the West Coast.”

Wentzel believes that the Seasalter, is the total epitome of what a good sauvignon blanc should be. “It has a good balance of fruit, just the right touch of oak, a wine that showcases its boldness and really encapsulates the terroir of the Darling West Coast region.

“The Seasalter is loved by many wine drinkers and is really just an awesome wine.”
