Sea Harvest Education Hub launched its computer training facilities at Hoopsig Centre in Paternoster on Tuesday 7 December.
Centre manager Shemoné Bokhary said the Sea Harvest Educational Hub will help equip the local children with the resources and knowledge to take part in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and to tackle the future with confidence.
The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Terence Brown, chairperson of the Sea Harvest Foundation, and Dr Willem du Toit, Regional Director of the Department of Social Development.
Brown, in his opening address, stressed the importance of collaboration for social projects. “It is in our DNA to engage and uplift communities and we do it by forming partnerships,” he said.
The generous donation by the Sea Harvest Foundation enabled the Paternoster Project NPC to establish and equip the facility that houses the 60 laptops and e-readers donated by Labdoo.
Charmaine Laubscher, the new Deputy Mayor of Saldanha Bay, and Speaker Olwene Daniels expressed the municipality’s appreciation to all the stakeholders who worked together to create this valuable resource for the Paternoster community.
André Kleynhans, Director of the Paternoster Project NPC, and Dr Jerome Joorst, lecturer in the Department of Education Policy Studies at Stellenbosch University, both referred to the team effort it took to realise the dream of a computer training centre.
They say the Sea Harvest Educational Hub proves what can be achieved by partnerships from the computers donated in Germany to the importing handled by Anker Meesterbouers and Lufthansa, to free WiFi and electrical connectivity supplied by DK Wireless and CMelektries.
